As part of the Mesabi Symphony Orchestra’s educational and community outreach initiatives, the orchestra hosts an annual Young Artist Competition.

Applications and recordings must be submitted by March 31 with live auditions taking place on April 6 in Virginia. Winners will receive cash prizes and perform on a concert series with the MSO during the 2023-2024 season. See Competition Information below and download the official rules and guidelines

The MSO is now accepting submissions for its 2023 Young Artist Competition!

Competition Information

There are two categories in the competition for student performers: Age 18 & younger (current high school/homeschool enrollment) and age 18-25 (post-high school). Applicants that are US residents living within 130 miles of Virginia, MN are eligible to apply. The MSO welcomes all vocalists, instrumentalists, and pianists to apply.

The application process entails submission of a digital recording, followed by an in-person audition before a panel of judges. Only the most qualified applicants are chosen to participate in the live auditions. Up to two winners are selected who then perform with the MSO on a concert series.
